I find it surprising (though I suppose I shouldn't) that at 48 there's still things I never questioned.

Anything in particular that you'd like to share? Would the 'haven't questioned' list be shorter than the 'have questioned' list?

Shorter, yes. But it is funny how we take things for granted we formed ideas about when we were a kid.

What prompted my thinking about this is a realization I made about my family.

We visited what I considered my dad's family in Indiana regularly when I was a kid. They all stayed pretty close to where they grew up. I thought my dad seemed odd in moving away. But it only recently dawned on me that that was only half my dad's family--his mother's side. I rarely or never met his dad's side because--they'd all scattered across the country.

As a kid I simply took what I saw at face value and didn't look further. And even after I had contradictory evidence as I got older, my brain never questioned that idea.
