It seems that advertisers have discovered my LJ identity. Shortly after searching for something on Google, I was spammed with related comment-ads on my LJ. There is no privacy online.

OMG! That's horrible! Why is Big Brother allowed to watch us? Have we learned nothing from 1984?

I'm actually not against targeted advertising when the collection of information is a known agreement and the ads are not spam. The problem is it is all behind the scenes and it seems the "good actors" are in bed with the bad.

I'm curious how they connected me to my LJ. Did LJ share my information or are they compromised? Did I do something foolish I've forgotten about? Are they spying on me through my browser? All this and more?

I'm willing to vote for "all this and more".

I heard today on the Marketplace Tech Report that Java has built-in security failures that are being hacked by spammers and others. It has weaknesses that can be and have been exploited to install "back doors" to PCs so that things like passwords, sign-ons, IDs and such can be scanned and used. They said that some really sophisticated hackers are even able to access intellectual property for a little rousing industrial espionage.

Nothing is safe, anywhere.

they might correspond your I.P. to the social networks that are addressed from it and to the Google search results. Athought I don't know how this stuff works, it's just an idea.
