If the reports are correct, it seems things are going from bad to worse economically in Russia and the Ukraine and Vladimir Vladimirovich is being backed even further into a corner. I hope my friends over there and their families and friends have some shelter from what may be a bad storm. Though I mostly hope that Putin comes to his senses and does right for the country and the region rather than only himself and his cronies. I assume it is all more complicated than it's portrayed in the US media, so I don't really now what the chances are for the region.

Vlad certainly has had some missteps, but really the core problem for him now is just that oil is cratering, which isn't something he has much control over. The only thing he could have done was diversify the economy better the last ten years, and it's rather too late for that now.

But, Russia has the ability to endure, so I expect they will find a way. Hopefully it will convince all and sundry that their resources need to be spread across more industries. Could be a painful transition, though.

I'd still rather be Russian than Iranian.

Thank you, Jim.
Things really are very bad, getting worser literally every day, and the upcoming year seems to be not the miraculous Santa, but some very unpleasant creature from the past.
We are all looking at the country which is shuttering down, and I can't say that slowly. It all feels like waiting for a serious collapse, and there are no means to predict what it might be and with what results. But this is just like a snowball: began from a stupid political action which culd have been cancelled, but infant ambitions of VVP wouldn't ever let him do a right thing. So now he's taken the country to such a point when there are no ways of getting out of without losing his face. Although I think he never even had one.

For us, citizens, there is always a good experience of turning to our inner lives despite all the horror happening outside our bodies and houses. I don't see any other option in nearest future. Most nearest.

I know what a terrible feeling it is to watch helplessly as the future turns black.

I'm far away, but if there is anything I can do, please let me know. Seriously.

Thank you Jim.
It's truly very bad, and I see no chances. The entire country gone mad on post-imperialist syndrome, nobody just wants the things to be different. I've a feeling we're doomed.

I hope you're not doomed. It's sad that Russia could have taken a different path.

If I can help you, let me know.
